Brick Warp| WWII US MARINE SCOUT SNIPER TEAM -OKINAWA 1945

Despite being one of my most requested figures, images of Marine snipers in WWII are incredibly scarce, other than a few staged propaganda shots. Probably because they were doing sniper things or something. I did find several photos of this unique Marine sniper on Okinawa, dug into a ridgeline with his spotter and security. Marine scout sniper platoons operated in a unique three man formation in WWII, learning a hard lesson on Guadalcanal as sniper-spotter two man teams could easily be ambushed in the jungle without a third man providing security. Since the third Marine is largely out of frame in this photo, I opted to just design a pair, and you can purchase any of my other available Marines to act as the third man for your MOC. Art wise, these Marines, dug into what appears to be a static position, are rocking really sparse loadouts. The spotter is carrying no gear at all, but I added a new leather M17 binocular case slung on his back, which can be seen discarded to the side in the original photo. The sniper, using an M1903 with Unertl USMC scope, has the standard rifle cartridge belt, two different Marine contract canteens, the jungle first aid kit widely issued late in WWII, and some new art for the lensatic compass pouch. Largely of note are his pack suspenders, which are worn independently of the pack system, and hooked onto his belt backwards. A few WWII photos show this practice, usually by medics, and support crew, to create a more A-frame like design which gear could be hooked on beyond just the field pack. 

This pair also debuts my new artwork for the jungle or green side of the reversible frogskin helmet cover. Contrary to popular belief, helmet covers were rarely swapped around in the field after landing. Color images and film almost universally show only the green side being worn, even in largely sand environments like Tarawa. Orders were usually issued prior to landings for Marines to wear the cover green side out, or in lieu, most just preferred the more traditional camouflage of green. The olive base helmet has been sold-out forever from BrickArms so I'm super excited to finally have some available and explore more camouflage options.
